Yakking with Yante: Episode 1: A WAK interview with Jacob Heredia
Jacob Heredia
Editor’s Note: Jacob Heredia graduated from The HUB High School in 2024. Daniel Yante is currently a student at Life 101, and was in the graduating class of 2023 at The HUB High School. Jacob is the founder of Weird and Kind (WAK), a graphic design company specializing in tee-shirts (https://weirdandkind.company.site). Everyone knows Daniel is one of WAK’s biggest fans. He interviewed Jacob for Believed In this week about the latest WAK products, and to find out what Jacob has been up to since graduation from The HUB. Be sure to check out the WAK website!
DY: What have you been up to since graduation?
JH: Since I’ve graduated I’ve been going to community college to get my certificate in graphic design and I’ve also been slowly working on my business weird and kind. I’ve also been practicing my art skills so that I can keep growing into an even better artist
DY: Where are you going to college? What are you studying? How do you like it?
JH: I am attending College of the Mainland in Texas City and I am really enjoying my time there, I am actually ahead in all of my classes!
DY: What was your inspiration for starting WAK? Where did "weird and kind" come from? How do you get the clothes produced?
Weird and kind was started by me and my friend, we used to be big into street art and graffiti. A big part of graffiti is graffiti crews. We decided to make our own crew and name it weird and kind (WAK) as we are both pretty weird guys but we are also very kind, we thought that others might relate to this sentiment so we started a T-shirt company to spread the message!
As for our clothing, I have them made on demand, meaning we make our designs then go online and chose a shirt type, color, and fabric and then link it to our website “weirdandkind.company.site”
Halloween Specials, Available until November 1, 2024
DY: I really like your new Halloween stuff. Tell us about that.
JH: So this year I had an idea to make October exclusive merch, they are all available on our store and will be up until November 1. All of the designs were inspired by classic horror media and stereotypes!
I am very proud of how it all came out and hope that everyone who purchased an item from our October collection is also happy with it as well!
DY: What does the long term look like for WAK? Will you ever have a store? In a mall, or stand alone?
JH: As it stands, I want to hold more in person sales at markets across Houston and perhaps even Austin! I do think it would be great to have an actual WAK store but that would be way down the road!
DY: How about you? Do you have any long term plans for yourself beyond WAK?
JH: As for myself, I would love to have a career in graphic design. I would also love to make comics and maybe even my own show!
