Meet the Lugnuts, the HUB’s new heavy metal band
“It all came together really fast,” says lead singer Sparky Jones (Sharp Conoly). “Geezer and I wrote Psycho Trailer Trash on a whim, and it seemed to really work. So, we were like, "‘let’s do an album!’”
The Lugnuts grew out of a currently stalled movie project in Life 101’s film class. The film class uses movie production as a vehicle for learning elements of project planning and getting used to working as a team. The original vision for the film, Lugnuts Save the Day, was a movie about a rock band from earth commissioned by the mayor of Fusion, capital city of Planet Motiff, to come save the planet from the machinations of the evil emperor, Hippopotamus van Couch IV. After a couple of weeks of plot development and script writing, however, class member’s work schedules changed, and it was clear we would not have time to complete the film.
But we did have time to write original music for the Lugnuts and create a music video based the Sponge Bob inspired track “Throwing the Electric Fruit.”
In addition to Sparky Jones, the Lugnuts are Jet (Bram Quintus-Bosz), Dumpling (Luke Bohreer) and Geezer (Tom Ricker).
We are releasing the Lugnuts first digital EP this summer, called “Here Comes the War.” Preview the title track below!
